75Hard Week #10: Are You Unmotivated?
Are you unmotivated? By: Erin Suarez
Do you believe that motivation is the key to success?
So many people don’t achieve their goals because they’re waiting to feel motivated. We have all felt it… motivation, that is. Sometimes there it is, a bright light, guiding you along with a song in your step. And other times, well, it can seem as difficult to find as a breath of fresh air in a fire.
If you’re feeling UNmotivated, you’re not alone. Motivation is fleeting, here today, gone tomorrow. Discipline, however, is reliable.
The question isn't how to keep yourself motivated, it's how to train yourself to work without it - and that takes focused discipline.
Here are six ideas to help you to manage your self discipline and focus:
-
Removing all temptations and distractions from your environment is a crucial first step when working to improve your self discipline.
-
Eat regular, healthy meals. When you’re hungry, your ability to concentrate suffers as your brain is not functioning to its highest potential. You will be mentally and physically weak - so fuel yourself for success.
-
Don’t wait for it to feel right, because it won’t always feel “right.” Embrace the discomfort (and go read my blog on this if you need help creating a habit)!
-
Schedule breaks and rewards for yourself, while practicing self-discipline (key word here, discipline).
-
Forgive yourself and move forward. You will have highs and lows. If, and when, you have a setback, acknowledge what caused it and move past it. Don’t get stuck here feeling sorry for yourself.
-
Don’t worry about tomorrow, focus on what is in front of you right now. Today has enough worries of its own.
There are two weeks remaining in our 75 Hard challenge, it’s hard to believe that time has passed so quickly! If you’ve felt your motivation fleeting, here’s a friendly reminder that it’s ok - you’re amongst good company. If you’ve slipped up along the way, it’s time to start again. Stop waiting to feel good about working towards your goals, and start creating disciplined habits to achieve them.
See you next week, Island Fam!
